Ghost Tape/ New album

Well this time last year i was working on the final mixes to Ghost Tape by The Calm Project and album i love and think is just beautiful in its flaws and in its greatness, 10 tracks of beautiful voices, orchestration and beats and twists.

The album was released on the 17th of October and was a year of creating and pushing myself to the edge of what my creativity could take, and i think the album speaks volumes for what it is...

I do find it a huge shame that people have copied my initial ideas and tried putting it into theirs copying is not a clever thing to do, as your the one that looks amateur!

Also for me what was a huge disappointment was the lack of sales and the fact i got no support from friends, as you can't guaranty  this anymore i find the option of posting on personnel pages a waste of time and not sure i want too anymore especially when your let down by close people in your life! Like the song says "where are my friends when the waves pull me under" !

Anyway am finishing up the new album which will be with us soon and i can't wait to get it out there, its a lot different to Ghost Tape which less evident on the vocals and more of a concept about what happened to me this year, the music is dark and brooding and a lot like a graphic novel, who knows it could score your life's work.

The album will be released on a netlabel and will be my first release on there, i am happy it will be getting this platform and some more people might listen to my music, not bragging but i think i deserve it!

Well an amazing surprise happened yesterday courtesy of SoundCloud, my other project and musical venture Subject B was Named SCOTD (Soundclouder of the day).

It does mean a lot and people have had a chance to listen to my music via the website and its given my small profile a large raise to the better, and this has really made my week. I work hard on creating music and making sure i enjoy the process and that other people will understand and like it too, i don't think i dumb down to the public, i am not saying my music is better or that am being pretentious, i am saying i am challenging myself and if people enjoy that in my music then great, thank you and i hope you enjoy the ride, i have had a vast amount of people listen to my page a record number of 1536 listens so far, and am increase of nearly 200 people, this is amazing thank you, i know it might all stop tomorrow but for now thank you so much.

To keep you updated on my record with The Calm Project, i have made some changes and its not going to be a 10 track album and should hopefully be coming to you very soon, i am in the process on waiting for parts back from people i am collaborating with and need to finish of the odd vocal part, and then final mixing and eventually mastering, and then a new record to release!

This process has been a long one and a challenging one too, the music i have gone through and experimented with has changed considerably from drones and crazy percussion too abstract musical motif's but i have come to a final process and pushed myself with my production efforts too, the annoying thing is i have learn more methods but i will use them for the next album/EP. But for now the album is close to being finished and will be hopefully in your hands very soon.

For those that are interested !

So i haven't blogged for awhile so thought i come say hello, well the album is still being written and recorded and am slowly getting there but shouldn't be for too long, so please bare with me, the tracks are taking shape and the sound is coming together, this is a new sound and new beginning for me musically as i am really trying to mix and master this with more time and effort, which i have not really done in the past, so the effort is more than usual and hopefully people will see this.

So far there are 12 tracks as i want it to tell a story of what is happening right now the songs are mixed up with vocals and instrumentals which tell the whole story some of you might get it some of you might not, but music is there for you to listen and enjoy.

There will be new artwork and hopefully a series of art for you to look at and enjoy while listening to the new record, i can't say much as i want it to be a whole project and not bits and bobs of sound and ideas being given away, there will probably be a promotional song being released but that will be it and then the album should be released afterwards, but those details are a bit hazy just now, 

I have normally shown people what i am recording on soundcloud, but i find that people just copy your ideas and claim them as there own, i think once the music is out and people know about it, you will be able to spot the fakers and stealers of music, either way this is to be listened to has a whole album, and enjoyed as a piece of music.

Indifference

Hello to anyone that reads my ramblings this is a update kinder thing, well a rant maybe who knows until i finish writing....

Well there has been a progression in my writing of the next album which will be released via Neuroplastic records :) But what i am finding as i continue to write and come up with new music i am finding the next track i write i like better than the last one so that gets bumped off and the album is continually growing and new parts are being added which is great don't get me wrong but when your trying to complete a record and your constantly writing new material it becomes difficult, it feels like this is gonna be a double album sorta record, but to be very honest i don't want to do that, i find i am becoming pushed and some what discouraged from my muse and i am finding it a difficult transition to finishing and completing the record, there are some great new songs and beats but doing vocals is the thing thats getting to me down as i haven't got great equipment right now and i am scared the end result will be basically shit! Certainly compared to the people on the label who seem to make interesting and yet big sounding shiny music, while mine sounds dull and muddy, i knew i should have gone to audio engineering school and learnt more!
I am starting to wish someone would produce and finish this record for me, or give me a time to record vocals in a studio, i guess i just have to keep at it and continue to destroy my brain with the complex nature of satisfying my mind!

Update and various ramblings

Hey ho lets go people....

Well the update this moment is that i have new songs and ideas written and i am working on arrangements and some sonic wizardry and hoping the tracks will take shape and become something very special!

I have probably written about 15 tracks so far, but not all of them in one pack make sense so i am trying to make the batch of songs i have flow, and for the album to work as a complete form of art, as far as it comes to singles or anything to share, that will be determined at a later date, right now making and producing something that i am happy with is the first thing on my mind right now. The songs do have some lovely amazing moments and the music is developing into something that i am very happy with, i must warn you this can all change very quickly as i get bored very easily about things like this, i am my own worst nightmare when it comes to matters like this i will write something then hate it then 6 months down the line like it again!

Also i think i have a title for the album, but all that will be revealed at a later date, right now its recording arranging and at some point adding vocals and then finally mixing and mastering the music as you can plainly see from that point i am well behind when it comes to finishing, i am starting to wonder if it will make a summer release?
And then artwork will be next, so yes i have a lot of work ahead of me and i need to get my butt into gear because this is going slow, and i am not sure peoples attention span would be so forgiving when i don't release anything :(

As for other projects such as Subject B and anything else i do watch this space

Breakthrough

Hello and welcome once again to the blog of The Calm Project, well since my last blog i have been very creative and been working on new music, i have 4 songs almost near complete and a lot more ideas to come, this could well be a 12 track album i am working on, i wanted to change the sound and ideas from where i have been because as you know people EVOLVE OR DIE!

Okay where to begin, this new direction i am going down is different but also some of the usual flavors are still in the mixing pot :) The Music has evolved into something new, the tracks are a mix of songs and instrumentals using field recordings and found sounds, it is not new to me but i want this album to be a true expression of how i am feeling and what i have gone through this year, as i say all great art comes from the heart and not the ego, as for some acts wanting to be famous takes precedence over the music and for me this is all wrong!

I don't want to give too much away but here are a few song titles :

The theme is darker and more disturbing than before, here i am pulling out all i know about myself and life into this music and i am hoping people come to understand where it is i am speaking from...
I really can't wait to share this music once its finished and let the world see what it is i am up too, the music will be released by myself and my netlabel Neuroplastic so be ready guys for something new from The Calm Project this year
