New Album New sounds New Beginning

Welcome back people to the album blog, its taken awhile but now its done, the album Colours in the wind.
This collection of songs took me over 3 months of recording and ideas, the course of finding new sounds and ideas to the actual recording and instrumentation, the music was then programmed performed and sung, over a long period of time, but the results are great and i am so glad it sounds like a complete work rather than a couple of songs here and there...
The next step for me now is to perform it live, hopefully in the new year i will be in a different place and performing again, the music is at times more complex, so i would like to bring in extra musicians to help out too...
Also i would love to be on the festival circuit and play to larger crowds, i just hope they accept new music and a different sound?
The time now is to relax and enjoy the Christmas Holidays but within the new year i will be making big plans to be out there performing and exposing my music to as much people as possible, this for me is about sharing music and exploring others, would love to work with more people and explore more options in the musical world, get in touch if you do too...
As for now i will update with blogs and comments and messages, if you want to contact me then please do would love to hear back from people, music is for everyone and this is for you!!!!

Almost complete

Hello people, well the word on the street is the New Calm Project album is nearly finished, well nearly, i would say i am one more from complelting the album...
So far it sounds great with varied and beautiful tracks, using a full range of orchestral instruments and electronica, this is an exciting time for me, as i really love how it sounds like an album and not a collection of songs.
Now the next step is scary, what do i do? well would love to perform the music to a wide range of people and take them on a musical journey, think they would get a kick out of the music, first for being different, and taking the time to write this music. I didn't think i had much inspriation but its come from somewhere, some of the songs are direct inspriation from people in my life, the others came from somewhere else....
The day of completion is the 29th of November, i would also like to get some vids to go with the release of this album, i just wonder if people actually want to buy it? WHO KNOWS?
I really hope this direction will take me to more higher musical plains, and not suffocated by the needless comments and people who don't give a shit, i am in a good place with this music, i just hope people are more open minded to what i will deliver!

Advice and being nice get you No where!

Well i think the title tells you all you need to know in this weeks blog, why is it no one really helps you, if they have contacts or they know something, people are never willing to divulge any information that they know?
I thought music was everyones and listening and experience is open to all open ears?
Seems careerism and being popular or "famous" is what most people care about nowadays, no one helps anyone, and its me against you, i find this moment in history pretty f##kin disgusting, you see it on streets, people ignoring the poor and homeless and looking at you if you were scum, this same mentality is in music, its all about who you know and who will stab you in the back, its starting to make music making and performing a chore!
I have in the past, told people information or given advice or told them about websites etc, and really tried to help to much of my ability, but No one is willing to help me?
I ASK MYSELF WHY ?
It does seem out of sight is out of mind, and people are quite willing to stab you the back to any gain, one thing is WHAT THE FUCK, why are people such belligerent when it comes to such matters, i find that not only weird and upsetting, but totally fucked up! What is making it anyway, and do you really think the music you make is yours? everyone is always influenced and we all copy, so why not just stop being arseholes and do the right thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Risk Takers vs the boring numb shit

Hey people welcome back to my blog, for all those who read i hope you enjoy my updates and rants on music, if your new then welcome to the calm project blog...

My update this week is why people never take risks with their music? I love exploring and finding new ideas and music to make or at least try and make new music for people to listen too...

I am right in the middle of working on new tracks for the calm project, they are in the electronic vein, but lend themselves to a more orchestral approach, with some sneaky beats and synth lines too.

What i am hearing right now is pure shit, all i keep hearing is the same music, boring stuck in the 80's synth pop, or people who really can't sing or play, what the fuck is up with this, and yet simon cowel said on one show people don't take risks, well mr cowell alot of people do and continue to make amazing music, maybe if the public would stop buying music that there told to like, and maybe get some balls and look at and buy new music!!!!!

For me music has not evolved one bit, and its still not evolving at all, at a push of my knowledge of music only one album i know has pushed musical boundaries in a song structure and thats Scott Walkers the drift, there are also other acts who continue to evolve such as Bjork, Who makes you listen to avant-guarde music while she sings to you, now that is amazing...

Also another amazing artist from Britain that we just let go was Martin Grech, not only have all his albums been different and new, but also taken major leaps and risks, and foolish enough island records let him go, perhaps if he had better marketing he would be more known, but that could also be a bad thing, right now the word is he is working on a 4th album and for me i can't wait to hear that record, his voice arrangements and music always keep me interested and i think its a huge shame that he doesn't get the surpport that he deserves!
But the problem is maybe this is what happens to all musical risk takers, maybe the risks they take will always end up at the bottom of the heap, my own opinion thats full of shit, if it wasn't for people taking risks music would be dead, and for me they keep their integrity is a whole lot more than selling units!
Make music matter and take risks, music is there to be explored and loved, lets not make packet soup out of the same formula....

Track list's and vocal fights

Hello people, if you read this then here is another update for your eyes only, if you are new to my blog then welcome, always interested in peoples views and opinions....
Well the update for this week is that the music is going well, i have now seven songs sort of done, just few changes and vocals to be done on some of the tracks and am thinking of working on an old song and giving it a revamp, the song is turn away, i have always loved this song but never felt the sound or vocal were right, its also an excellent song to do live as it gets really loud at the end and makes people either shut up, or cover there ears because they can't hear, for me this is excellent, as people actually take notice of what i am doing...
The new song titles (working titles, might change) for now:
1. Riverbed (epic, ballad, needs some work)
2. Antidote (Bi-polar song, goes through interesting transitions of beautiful epic music)
3. These binded hands ( electronic fest of great porportion)
4. Hold me (beautiful piano led electronic ballad)
5. Nothing ( electronica and orchestra meets torch singer)
6. Veins ( excellent electronica song)
7. Turn Away ( old song being revamped)
I am thinking of using 3 other older songs but am still not sure yet? i do love the songs but i am thinking of maybe working on new ideas, this will push back the time i release them to the public but i think thats a good thing.
Also i am thinking of putting out another EP project 2, no one seems to have bought the 1st one so not sure about a 2nd release?
Just to let you know, i have released some new tracks for subject b : go check them out on facebook as they are there 1st, will put them onto myspace soon.
I am still looking for visuals so please get in contact.

ITS BEGUN

Ok i bet your all wondering what's been happening?
Well i will tell you all right now...
I have moved away from the northwest, and now begun writing music, this is for the calm project, the new songs i hope will have a new different edge than the old songs i have done, but thats for you to tell me.
I have 4 songs in progress and about 2 songs almost done, just a few bits to tidy up etc.
I think the new sound is interesting and am trying to import more ideas from different influences, and use more instruments to create textures and sounds that will sit happy in the mix.
I am still needing a visual element to the music so if there is anyone out there please get in contact through email or messages on the various sites.
I would like to have at least 10 new songs before i perform again having a new direction and new sound and hopefully new look as well, it would be pretty cool to start fresh and new!
As for gigs, well this is normally a headache situation, so not looking forward to explaining what i do and where i can play, kinda wish places were more open minded, but that will come later!
One last important thing to add is, i have now started doing Vblogs and you can find them on my youtube channel, type in the calm project and you should be able to find me on there, this vblog will have personal updates from me E, as well as footage of recording and keeping you up to date with whats happening with The Calm Project...

Times are a changin

Well times are changing, this time next week i will be in a new city and hopefully making a difference.
Due to circumstances i am changing towns and will hopefully be more excepted that i was in the northwest area, i am hoping there would be more exceptence of new music and experimental electronica...
As the so called capital of music is only open to acoustic acts and beatle rip offs, music has not progressed since 1969, and is slowly imploding upon its self.
I would like to establish The Calm Project and Subject B, when am down there, and hopefully have a new live set of music as well as live show, including visuals and using different instruments on stage, i feel i have a new lease of life and am excited to be moving on and having a fresh start, the world feels very optimistic for me now, and i have not had this feeling for along time, especially in the northwest, too many clicks and too many back stabber's, this is not the environment for me and i will hopefully change all that, saying this i am really gonna miss my close friends, and the bands i enjoyed watching!
But times are a changin, and so am i, the question is why aren't you?

Hiatus

The reason why am calling it quits for now, is due to disappointment in music and live music, seems nothing new or interesting can have a place right now, and only if you supply to the masses your aloud the platform to give what the public want, same old shit!

That's not how i am, i prefer to make something new, challenge the listener and give them something different, i am not saying i am new, but i am saying i am different, if people understand that the music isn't alien, but just the good parts of music i like, they may just understand and get it, i want this break and opportunity to work on visual and live aspect, as i know i can deliver more than what you expect, also to find a venue, that doesn't apply by facist regime to who or what plays on a stage, i am tired of the same boring music, or the so called kooky cool music, its dead and boring, EVOLVE OR DIE!

The Calm Project will be back, perhaps different and maybe different line up, i would like to extend this offer to whoever reads this blog, and if you would like to be involve contact me through here or myspace, facebook etc...

Music is one of the most important things in my life, and people have ruined this for me, your contrived approach to being a sellout sickens me, your not making music your copying artists, there is nothing original anymore, what happened to exploring and taking risks, music and art evolves people, it doesn't spend hours creating hooks, were not machines were human beings, when you say the next time your open minded about making music, how about stop and realise your lying!

Being Different

What is music to you?
This is the question am asking myself and others, do we really make music for ourselves? am finding this question a little more awkward!
I love music so much, it does things to me that i can't describe, it has a phyisical affect on me, giving me goose bumps or making my heart thump! And this is what am trying to create in the music i make with the calm project, emotional strings, crazy beats, and passionate vocals, this is what i live for and want to express!

I put my complete self into the music i make, its not about being famous or grabbing a record contract, tho some backing and money would be nice, i find most people do not get or understand what am trying to do, they see a laptop and probably think, he can't play or the computer is doing the work! The reality is i can play, and the music i make is played by others, as i want to be free to sing, and to express myself, just because you see a laptop doesn't mean i can't play, its a tool for making music, laptops are the new strats!
The music you hear is from me, written and played for, its an expression of emotional content, in which i deliver myself and my music...

Evolve or die

Subject B

This is my new project idea, Subject B. It is a ambient electronic project made up of different ideas and influences, the music is instrumental and its made to relax and chill out too...

Looking for people

Ok this is more of an advert than blog!

Am looking for musicians who are open to new ideas, someone who can play classical instrument but be open to experimentation and also lend a hand in the electronica vibe!

Also if any artists or film makers would like to make visuals and art for the band please get in touch too.

And most of all if you like the band we can send you mp3's or cd's as well...

2010 so far

What's been happening with me and the calm project, well the expectations out way the clear evidence of disappointment, the idea was to step up a level and have more gigs, make recordings get people interested and become better writer and musician, the reality is i have done 4 gigs, made some new songs, some that can't be played live, and were half way through the year.

I am thinking of looking into agencies or a manager, as i just have no clue to what your surpose to do? the music business confuses me to bits, i don't get what people like or what there told to like basically!
so what's the next logical step?

i guess new music is not welcome this year, maybe i should wear skinny jeans get a fringe and sing like i am from 1980's london?

Post- music

Ok this is a rant, or as i call it the truth of what is happening right now, music has lost its beauty and has become a way of making money, am shocked to how bands only do things for money and not for the love of music, if you look at what is "popular" right now, more about image and money than about the love of music, we keep harking back to what was popular and not creating anything new, i thought we were suppose to evolve?
I see musicians in so called musical city liverpool, who want to get paid, not want to play get paid, and its all about being in a band that does get paid, we are so wrapped up in ourselves, that making money is the first thought, what about music, you can see why the music has become stale and boring as most musicians don't take risks, its about what other people want and want to hear, not about what you like or feel, we are just making music for people and not ourselves, for me thats not being a musician, or an artist, thats selling out completely!

Trying to do something new or different is pretty much shunned by people and probably sniggered at, as in my band am not playing guitar solos or having a big drum sound, i am making music that i want to listen too, music that isn't out there, combining orchestral music with electronica and adding other influences as they arise, there are people who make this type of music, they are made by women mostly, bjork, imogen heap, kate havnivik, etc, but not many men, so i am creating something for me, music is personnel and if people get it and understand you, then your more than welcome for the ride, as for the rest of you, evolve or die!!!!!
