Lost in Translation

Hello Friends, people, animals who may listen and may read my blogs.
I firstly would like to say a huge thank you to all the people who have downloaded the album Rorschach, and to the people who bought it even bigger thanks, that was most unexpected :)
I really do hope you enjoy listening to the album and it becomes apart of your avid listening.

But i do think there is a lack of understanding when it comes to me making music with The Calm Project, i enjoy the feedback and if you like the music great, if you don't fine, but i am not looking for acceptance when it comes to what i make, because the music i do make, is for myself first, this may sound very selfish, but i do believe if your not being true to yourself, then your already on the wrong path, the albums i make are a audio diary to me, so am not expecting people to understand them or even get it! The idea is to just listen, if you like the music cool, if you listen to the lyrics cool as well, but as far as going to understanding it, thats different as i will never divulge what they are about, sorry its personnel.
I believe in following your own path, thats for me what a real musician should do and try new things, most musicians write in styles and copy other artists, i don't understand this at all, i may sound like people but i don't copy, i infact try not to listen to any other music while am writing as i don't want to be influenced or even just rip anyone off who i like. If musicians were completely true to themselves then the record industry would be so much different, rather than the stale format it is in now!
I keep saying at the end of my blog Evolve or Die, this is completely ignored as i seem to be stuck in this generation of moron, lets start being intelligent again, its not hard people!

Anyway for those who care i am about to start work soon on a new collaboration with an amazing electronic artist and i am very excited as i am a fan, so keep your eyes out for that, also i have begun writing new ideas for the next album and another project too....

Independent Artists

Well this blog is about independent artists and how we should support people who truely deserve support from the public and friends, i find the state of music right now scary and i really hope i am not on my own, when you watch programmes or game shows like X factor and you see the new artists of today with millions of album sales you start to think what is the point, i don't have a million pound advertising campaign behind me and i will never get beyond Sound Cloud or Facebook, well i think its time to change all that and listen too new artsists who are as passionate about music and as talented as say fuckin Muse! Or who ever these saturated boring people are, please take the time to listen share and even download these guys and really listen to the music, there is more out there than just what you see on TV!

These are just a few of the artists and people who i know, and they don't have massive record deals or a million pound budget to make them famous they are artists in the true form of what art is, please take the time to discover new music, it is needed!

Rorschach New Album

Well people the wait is over, i have spent over a year working on music that has eventually turned into Rorschach, the album did not sound anything like this at all and was more pop i guess, but due to circumstances the album changed and became a concept record in away...
The Album is personal and has clues but only a few people would understand what its about, as for the rest of the world make of it what you will and just enjoy it for the music and art.

I have described this as being Post-Music, being from my days at university, all music is post of some sort, we copy use paste and rip off so many people, i know am gonna get a lot of people telling me what it sounds like and who i sound like, normally Eddie Vedder, Peter Gabrial or Thom Yorke, fun as it is, i just want people to listen too it as a album and enjoy the music.
Thats right people an album, not a EP or single, i find people don't sit down anymore and listen to albums, here i do want you to put some headphones on and listen and take the album in as a whole and not just a quick yeah cool, i just hope people will come to like the music and the album its self.

Ghost Tape/ New album

Well this time last year i was working on the final mixes to Ghost Tape by The Calm Project and album i love and think is just beautiful in its flaws and in its greatness, 10 tracks of beautiful voices, orchestration and beats and twists.

The album was released on the 17th of October and was a year of creating and pushing myself to the edge of what my creativity could take, and i think the album speaks volumes for what it is...

I do find it a huge shame that people have copied my initial ideas and tried putting it into theirs copying is not a clever thing to do, as your the one that looks amateur!

Also for me what was a huge disappointment was the lack of sales and the fact i got no support from friends, as you can't guaranty  this anymore i find the option of posting on personnel pages a waste of time and not sure i want too anymore especially when your let down by close people in your life! Like the song says "where are my friends when the waves pull me under" !

Anyway am finishing up the new album which will be with us soon and i can't wait to get it out there, its a lot different to Ghost Tape which less evident on the vocals and more of a concept about what happened to me this year, the music is dark and brooding and a lot like a graphic novel, who knows it could score your life's work.

The album will be released on a netlabel and will be my first release on there, i am happy it will be getting this platform and some more people might listen to my music, not bragging but i think i deserve it!

Well an amazing surprise happened yesterday courtesy of SoundCloud, my other project and musical venture Subject B was Named SCOTD (Soundclouder of the day).

It does mean a lot and people have had a chance to listen to my music via the website and its given my small profile a large raise to the better, and this has really made my week. I work hard on creating music and making sure i enjoy the process and that other people will understand and like it too, i don't think i dumb down to the public, i am not saying my music is better or that am being pretentious, i am saying i am challenging myself and if people enjoy that in my music then great, thank you and i hope you enjoy the ride, i have had a vast amount of people listen to my page a record number of 1536 listens so far, and am increase of nearly 200 people, this is amazing thank you, i know it might all stop tomorrow but for now thank you so much.

To keep you updated on my record with The Calm Project, i have made some changes and its not going to be a 10 track album and should hopefully be coming to you very soon, i am in the process on waiting for parts back from people i am collaborating with and need to finish of the odd vocal part, and then final mixing and eventually mastering, and then a new record to release!

This process has been a long one and a challenging one too, the music i have gone through and experimented with has changed considerably from drones and crazy percussion too abstract musical motif's but i have come to a final process and pushed myself with my production efforts too, the annoying thing is i have learn more methods but i will use them for the next album/EP. But for now the album is close to being finished and will be hopefully in your hands very soon.

For those that are interested !

So i haven't blogged for awhile so thought i come say hello, well the album is still being written and recorded and am slowly getting there but shouldn't be for too long, so please bare with me, the tracks are taking shape and the sound is coming together, this is a new sound and new beginning for me musically as i am really trying to mix and master this with more time and effort, which i have not really done in the past, so the effort is more than usual and hopefully people will see this.

So far there are 12 tracks as i want it to tell a story of what is happening right now the songs are mixed up with vocals and instrumentals which tell the whole story some of you might get it some of you might not, but music is there for you to listen and enjoy.

There will be new artwork and hopefully a series of art for you to look at and enjoy while listening to the new record, i can't say much as i want it to be a whole project and not bits and bobs of sound and ideas being given away, there will probably be a promotional song being released but that will be it and then the album should be released afterwards, but those details are a bit hazy just now, 

I have normally shown people what i am recording on soundcloud, but i find that people just copy your ideas and claim them as there own, i think once the music is out and people know about it, you will be able to spot the fakers and stealers of music, either way this is to be listened to has a whole album, and enjoyed as a piece of music.

Indifference

Hello to anyone that reads my ramblings this is a update kinder thing, well a rant maybe who knows until i finish writing....

Well there has been a progression in my writing of the next album which will be released via Neuroplastic records :) But what i am finding as i continue to write and come up with new music i am finding the next track i write i like better than the last one so that gets bumped off and the album is continually growing and new parts are being added which is great don't get me wrong but when your trying to complete a record and your constantly writing new material it becomes difficult, it feels like this is gonna be a double album sorta record, but to be very honest i don't want to do that, i find i am becoming pushed and some what discouraged from my muse and i am finding it a difficult transition to finishing and completing the record, there are some great new songs and beats but doing vocals is the thing thats getting to me down as i haven't got great equipment right now and i am scared the end result will be basically shit! Certainly compared to the people on the label who seem to make interesting and yet big sounding shiny music, while mine sounds dull and muddy, i knew i should have gone to audio engineering school and learnt more!
I am starting to wish someone would produce and finish this record for me, or give me a time to record vocals in a studio, i guess i just have to keep at it and continue to destroy my brain with the complex nature of satisfying my mind!

Update and various ramblings

Hey ho lets go people....

Well the update this moment is that i have new songs and ideas written and i am working on arrangements and some sonic wizardry and hoping the tracks will take shape and become something very special!

I have probably written about 15 tracks so far, but not all of them in one pack make sense so i am trying to make the batch of songs i have flow, and for the album to work as a complete form of art, as far as it comes to singles or anything to share, that will be determined at a later date, right now making and producing something that i am happy with is the first thing on my mind right now. The songs do have some lovely amazing moments and the music is developing into something that i am very happy with, i must warn you this can all change very quickly as i get bored very easily about things like this, i am my own worst nightmare when it comes to matters like this i will write something then hate it then 6 months down the line like it again!

Also i think i have a title for the album, but all that will be revealed at a later date, right now its recording arranging and at some point adding vocals and then finally mixing and mastering the music as you can plainly see from that point i am well behind when it comes to finishing, i am starting to wonder if it will make a summer release?
And then artwork will be next, so yes i have a lot of work ahead of me and i need to get my butt into gear because this is going slow, and i am not sure peoples attention span would be so forgiving when i don't release anything :(

As for other projects such as Subject B and anything else i do watch this space

Breakthrough

Hello and welcome once again to the blog of The Calm Project, well since my last blog i have been very creative and been working on new music, i have 4 songs almost near complete and a lot more ideas to come, this could well be a 12 track album i am working on, i wanted to change the sound and ideas from where i have been because as you know people EVOLVE OR DIE!

Okay where to begin, this new direction i am going down is different but also some of the usual flavors are still in the mixing pot :) The Music has evolved into something new, the tracks are a mix of songs and instrumentals using field recordings and found sounds, it is not new to me but i want this album to be a true expression of how i am feeling and what i have gone through this year, as i say all great art comes from the heart and not the ego, as for some acts wanting to be famous takes precedence over the music and for me this is all wrong!

I don't want to give too much away but here are a few song titles :

The theme is darker and more disturbing than before, here i am pulling out all i know about myself and life into this music and i am hoping people come to understand where it is i am speaking from...
I really can't wait to share this music once its finished and let the world see what it is i am up too, the music will be released by myself and my netlabel Neuroplastic so be ready guys for something new from The Calm Project this year

Feeling like Orpheus

Okay am back and feeling better than my last blog, i think my writers block has gone and i am feeling far more inspired than i did before, the music that i am producing is starting to come think and fast, and it sounds great so far....

I have taken two previous songs i was working on and mixed them up a bit and now have a new lease of life, also i have written some new ideas and in the middle of arrangements and producing the sound quality that i am going for, hopefully this will be influenced by the likes of Amon Tobin and the final product will be something huge and powerful, don't get me wrong though i am far away from any completion and there is a lot more to come and make, i decided this is my sculpture record, chipping away till it feels right to exhibit. So please bare with me!

I have been on my travels again and now in a new place and starting to feel more settled i am still looking for musicians who would like to get involved even if it means using the Internet to make and produce music, its a tool my friends lets use them!

Inspiration

Well for those that bother or actually give a shit, this is a note/blog for inspiration and hope, i am struggling with being inspired and finishing music, and actually just being happy with what am producing, but this goes far beyond just music, as art represents life this is my life and this is my struggle, being inspired not only to make music but also to make life, as everything is pretty much dead until life is given too things, for me right now death is at my door and i can't find life, i don't hear anything good anymore, music is pretty much dead too me, especially in the local scene where its full of rich kids wanting to be famous, or just full of lifeless rock statues who fall into the blurs or cliche and pretty much give you the same old crap, i find the object of creativity and the ideals of being rich the culprit for what is happening today, don't believe the hype and seek the artist because its they who deliver, this is not about playing the guitar its about who gives themselves to art!

The power of music

Okay this is a shortish blog about something that i found amazing and yet inspiring to myself recently well more than recently i have been ill, i have had respiratory problems because of the cold flats i live in plus the mold on walls, i have taken steroids and antibiotics etc and now on inhalers and all that, i recently had a lung function test and the tests came back normal and in some cases above average, due to the singing exercises i have done over the years etc, goes to show building up my muscles and lung function through singing as helped me, and not let my body turn to mush!

Long live singing and music its helped me more times than i can ever think off

A Creative peak is around the corner

Okay so not much has been released except for Christmas songs and cover versions and old material, well don't be alarmed i haven't gone cabaret on your ass am not a sell out like most of the contentious people out there or give us the same old drivel!

I am starting a new and the 1st thing to come hopefully soon when i finish the vocals is 4 new collaborations so please stay tuned as the music that i have been given is killer! And i can't wait to add my parts to these amazing musical moments :)

2nd On my list is getting back to my new work, i say work as the idea of selling an Album or EP sounds ridiculous to me, sometimes, especially when no one buys your last album, plus not being represented is difficult as it is, and as no one takes notice of anything i do the idea of me saying am following up an album just sounds funny to me!

Anyway the new tracks are coming along at a slow pace i know but they are coming, the music is a complete 180 directional turn of the last album and style, here the music breaths in a different genre and mood to the last out pourings that i gave you, here new beats and sounds and instruments fit together like a Dali Painting, soon i will add words poems thoughts to these sounds and hopefully songs will be born!!

My other offerings cannot be said yet so thats all your getting.... Though i have thought about making a film?
